portrait of Daniel

Welcome to my world!

My name is Daniel Ygrelius and I am the author of the epic book series called Permaneo Humanus. The seed of my writing was sown in 1996 but I started writing my books in earnest in 2006. After endless drafts and long sessions of proofreading my world is finally taking shape. But first, let me describe my background. I was born in Mölndal but was raised in Partille near Gothenburg.

In the beginning of the 1980's I saw Star Wars - Episode IV for the first time and my life hasn't been the same ever since. I had never seen anything like it before. It was a fantastic adventure that took me on a magical journey and I could barely believe my own eyes. I was pulled away from the boring everyday life in Gothenburg where we only hade two TV-channels and I was thrown into a world where I got to see exotic aliens, planets and dramatic battles in space. From that day on my life was forever changed and my goal in life became as clear as day.

I wanted to create my own universe where creatures, spaceships and exotic places was set pieces in a fantastic story that would grant the reader the same feelings of wonder as I got when I saw Star Wars for the first time. I must stress that George Lucas isn't the only one that has inspiered me through the years and I have been influenced as much, and maybe even more, from movies such as Alien (1979), Aliens (1986) and John Carpenter's The Thing (1982). But it isn't only science-fiction that is the basis for my own creations. Classic adventure films like Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), Conan The Barbarian (1982), action comedy that you can experience in films like Beverly Hills Cop (1984) and it's sequel from 1987. Cynical and violent films like Robocop (1987) and Starship Troopers (1997) and provoking horror films like Hellraiser (1987) is just a tiny selection that helps me set the tone in my series of books. It might seem strange that it is mainly movies that inspired me to write books but it was what I was exposed to the most during my childhood.

When it comes to books I do have my favourites there as well and one of them is 'American Psycho' by Bret Easton Ellis. 'Do Androids Dreams of Electric Sheep' by Philip K. Dick is another great novel that the movie Blade Runner (1982) is based on. Other good books worth mentioning is Therese Raquin by Émile Zola, 1984 by George Orwell and The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Back to my own creations it has been wonderful to write my stories. To create something from the ground up that over time grows into a larger and more complex world. To create characters that is with you every day and becomes in a way like your own children. It might seem strange but that's how it felt for me during the process. My writing has, including my wonderful wife, given me a much needed meaning in my life. I hope that you after all this want to follow me on the magical journey that I have created.

The adventure awaits...

Daniel Ygrelius
